After 10 years of life as a solo woman abroad, I’ve got plenty of tried and true resources for solo women abroad. You know what I’m talking about, those little things that make travel and the international lifestyle a lot smoother. We’re talking about everything from my favorite to-go skincare for travel to the best tool for international banking, to my favorite way to find the perfect hotels for solo female travelers. Looking to make new friends abroad? I can help! Thinking of starting your own travel blog? I’ve got resources for travel bloggers to help you set up your website, learn about the mysteries of SEO for travel blogs, and start making money doing what you love. Hold on to your hats, here come my favorite resources for solo women abroad!

hotels for solo women abroad

My number one favorite tool for finding a hotel I can feel comfortable staying in as a solo woman abroad is Booking.com! Part of the reason I trust them so much is because they rate each property based on user reviews and offer an incredibly detailed list of amenities as well as photos from actual guests so you’ve got a good idea of what you’re getting into before you book.

My favorite Booking.com feature is the map you can use to pinpoint the property and compare and contrast other accommodations in the area by price. Many properties offer free cancellation within a set period of time, so I like to book my hotel first, and then sort my other travel details later. Unlike some other 3rd party websites for hotels, Booking.com offers complete transparency about the property you’ll be staying in before you book.

nomad insurance

Travel the world with the peace of mind that you can access medical care everywhere you go! SafetyWing has got you covered!

wise

Wise is your ultimate online bank for international travel. Foreign transaction fees? I don’t know her! Tap, send, and pay like a local in multiple world currencies. This code gets you your first transfer free of charge. Wise is one of my favorite financial resources for solo women abroad.

With the Wise app on my phone, I can tap and pay anywhere in the world, just like I’m at home. I also love how I can easily manage my spending in real-time and seamlessly flip to a different currency when I reach my next destination.

Wise can also give you financial peace of mind when you’re traveling solo. Worried about losing your wallet as a solo woman abroad? Wise can act as a backup plan. Let’s say the worst happens in Paris and someone steals your purse, with all of your cash and credit cards in it. If you’ve got the Wise app on your phone, you still have access to your money. You can even send yourself more Euros (or whatever currency you like!) so you never have to worry about being left empty-handed.

stylish and comfortable, I live in my Lucy & Yak dungarees when I fly long haul flights as a woman looking for resources for solo woman abroad

skin & me

I get so many compliments now that I’ve started my bespoke skincare routine with Skin & Me. What I love is that all the products are cruelty-free, sustainable, and come in low-waste, recyclable containers so it is super easy to keep up with your Skincare routine on the go. Their serums come in a lightweight, aluminum tube that you twist to dispense just the right dose. This clever design means the product is never going to leak into your travel bag and make a mess. As a solo woman abroad, I pack light. Skin & Me fits perfectly with my travel routine.

Lucy & Yak

Colorful, sustainable, and oh-so comfortable, Lucy & Yak is my go-to for wardrobe staples that make a statement. I refuse to go on a long-haul flight in anything but their signature dungarees and I’ve been known to rock their iconic bright-colored fleeces, corduroys, and miniskirts all over town! As a solo woman abroad, I am all about rocking my personal style when I travel and I love that Lucy & Yak helps me do that in comfort.
