I am over the moon to share that my novel, What Would Joan Jett Do? A First Year Teaching, has been longlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Prize! This prize celebrates witty women writers and was founded by none other than legendary funny lady Helen Lederer. I am so honored to be recognized by this amazing organization doing the important work of promoting women writing in comedy. This one’s for everyone along the way who ever told me there are fewer women in comedy because, “girls just aren’t funny.” Who’s laughing now, pals!?
On a note of shameless self promotion, What Would Joan Jett Do? is a complete unpublished manuscript of 90K-ish words and I am seeking agent representation.
Rookie teacher Annie scores a job in a school where rumor has it, the kids drove their last teacher ‘cuckoo birds’. When things get tough she calls upon her holy trinity of punk goddesses; Joan Jett, Patti Smith and Debbie Harry and learns how to channel her inner punk rocker to face crushing anxiety, stand up for her students, battle #metoo moments and take a chance on love.
