Triptease: Fuertaventura

I must have a thing for Lava, because this February I’ll be adding to my rock collection with a trip to yet another volcanic island… albeit one with much more temperate weather! This winter’s adventures will take me 100 Km off the coast of Africa to the gorgeous and ruggedly windswept shores of Futertaventura.

My main objective in going there is to zen out at a yoga retreat. I’m really jazzed as this will be the first yoga retreat I’ve gone on since moving to Europe. I’ll dish out the full report later, but for now, all I know is that this will be the first holiday I’ve ever been on where all my needs will be taken care of and all I need to do is show up and chill out! Usually I opt for something a bit more adventurous, but the change of pace will be good for me. This will be exactly what I need as I’m right smack dab in the middle of my most bonkers time of the year at work. I may not want to relax, but I sure need to!

But okay… what’s a little relaxation without some inspiration and exploration? I’m also super-stoaked to check out the beaches, take in some volcanic rock formations, and maybe even spend a night out on the town… just one.

What about you? Have you ever been on an all-inclusive vacation?

What’s your favourite place to get away from it all?

  1. Like you, I’m an adventurous traveler so all-inclusive vacations don’t really appeal. I’ll be curious to hear all about your experience, though — perhaps I’ve been wrong and have been missing out! No matter what, I hope you have a wonderful and restorative break.

PS: My favorite place to get away is Paris. Although it seems counterintuitive to choose a bustling city as my introvert retreat, I love that you can disappear into the quiet of a church, sit undisturbed along the banks of the Seine for hours, or perch anonymously at a café and watch the world go by.
