How to find the most interesting and delicious restaurants in Iceland…
The world’s northernmost capital may be tiny, but Reykjavík is fast becoming a miniature foodie’s paradise! We never lacked for interesting and delicious food options in Reykjavík, always served up with that signature Icelandic warmth and no fuss hospitality we came to love. Here are some of the best restaurants and cafes in Rekjavík… according to me!
Coffee:
Good strong coffee, delicious pastries and friendly staff in a sweet harbor side location.
Lunch:
Saegreifinn (Sea Baron)
Arrrr Mateys! Totally authentic dockside fish shack with the best lobster stew in Iceland. Eat on rough hewn tables sitting on bouys elbow to elbow with your fellow customers. Don’t forget to try the fresh fish skewers too!
Exquisitely batter fried local fish, rosemary roasted potatoes and a raft of eclectic dipping sauces that are to die for.

Hearty and veggie friendly diner food served late, as well as a great beer and coffee list. And yes, you can do your laundry downstairs while you sip a latte!
Dinner:
Fiskmarkaðurinn (Fish Market)

This is a special spot serving up super fresh and creative seafood dishes. Think sushi and tuna tartare served on a lava rock as an appetizer and a deconstructed cheesecake concoction so sublime that my travel companions and I dubbed it, “unicorn cheesecake” as the grand finale. This is where you go when you want to spoil yourself or somebody else you love!

Cool and cozy bistro with an extensive drinks menu including an entire sub menu of gin and tonics! The food is delicious and unfussy bistro fare. We had mussels, catch of the day bouillabaisse, grilled salmon and duck confit.

An Icelandic take on Tapas, including plenty of fish and some more traditionally Spanish fare such as paella, served up in a cozy, cavern like atmosphere.

Yes, that Leboski. The dude abides at this funky Slice of Americana offering great music, burgers and fries and an extensive list of White Russians.

This graffiti strewed attic hideaway offers cheap beer, live music and a jovial atmosphere. They have a full roster of events including live music, improv comedy and a Karaoke night where you can watch adorable Icelandic 20-somethings totally kill it!
By the end of my stay it was clear to me that we’d only just sampled the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what’s tasty in the world’s coldest capital. When you come to Reykjavík, come hungry and ready to chow down on some out of this world seafood!
